Author of The Martian Chronicles and Fahrenheit 451 has died at age 91.

The writer thought to be most responsible for bringing modern science fiction into the literary mainstream has died at his home in southern California.

According to a statement, Bradbury ?died peacefully, last night, in Los Angeles, after a lengthy illness.?

Over the course of his career, Ray Bradbury sold more than eight million copies of his books, including his short story collections The Martian Chronicles, The Illustrated Man and The Golden Apples of the Sun. His work also included classic novels Something Wicked This Way Comes and Fahrenheit 451.

Although he recently suffered from a stroke, Bradbury continued to write into his 90s, producing new novels, screenplays and a volume of poetry.
